The European Union’s primary legal instrument to prevent greenwashing is Directive (EU) 2024/825, formally known as the Directive on Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (ECGT). Often referred to as the “Greenwashing Directive,” it amends the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (UCPD) and the Consumer Rights Directive (CRD).
